Show American Legion Plans State- Wide Birthday Party Clarence C. Nelson, Utah Commander Com-mander of the American Legion announced this week that on Saturday, Sat-urday, March 25, 1950, in Salt Lake City Legionaires will hold a statewide state-wide Legion birthday party, honoring honor-ing the 31st anniversary of the founding of the organization. Hotel Newhouse will be the site for the thousand-man banquet and floor show which begins promptly at 6:30 p. m. Legion posts in Utah annually sage local birthday parties be-'wn be-'wn the date of March 15-17. However, not since 1941 has the I oginn department held a combined com-bined state-wide observance. Due to pressure of the War, they were discontinued that year and were not resumed until this year. Tickets have been printed and distributed proportionately to Legion Leg-ion post commander under the died di-ed ion of Clem S. Schramm, general gen-eral chairman. Schramm said that the committee commit-tee is presently negotiating for the services of a man of national prominence to fill the bill as main speaker. Aso, J. E. (Doc) Martie, national Vice-Commander of the American Legion from Reno, Nev., will be in attendance. One of Utah ablest impressarios, in the person of Kingsley E. Claw-son, Claw-son, a past department commander, command-er, has lined up a floor show which he bills as "surpassing anything seen in the Beehive state in at least 10 years!" New colors and standards of the Legion department will be on dis-pay dis-pay for the first time,. The old colors, having served the organiz-ion, organiz-ion, for a generation, and now much faded, will be formally presented pre-sented to Gov. J. Bracken Lee, for safekeeping among the state 's most treasured momentos. |
