Show Sutherland Home Coming Draws Over 300 Sutherland Home Coming Tuesday, Tues-day, was a highly successful day, with more than 300 present, Sutherland Suth-erland residents of the past and present. This was the first home coming in several years, and a big welcome was prepared for all comers. Tables were filled and refilled during the dinner hours, with parties par-ties and family groups with full hampers of lunch. Dinner was serv-led serv-led in the Sutherland hot lunch room, where the tables were set and punch served by members of i the Relief Society and girls' organization. organ-ization. I After dinner and the social hour, two ball games were scheduled, : soft ball, with girls vs. boys, and hard ball, by two men's teams. The first game, girls vs. boys, was well into the 5th inning, with the boys in the lead, when Tuesday's summer rain storm broke it up. As the downpour continued, neither game was played. In the evening the large crowd gathered again in the Sutherland ward hall for the program, arrang- , ed by the Sutherland Sunday r School. The opening prayer was ! given by Cutler Henrie, followed by songs, given Dy Arvuia jonn-i jonn-i son and Irene Brumley, and Mrs. Betty Turner. Bishop Frank Lyman gave the welcoming address, and expressed the pleasure of all at being one of the friendly gathering. Other numbers on the program were "a comedy skit by Dick Wind, a tap dance by Norma Jean Little, a reading, by Dorothy Sanford, and ' a letter read by Mrs. Josie Walker from Dr. E. R. C. Tracy, of Sanford, ( Florida. Dr. Tracy's letter will be ' publihed next week, as it is of interest in-terest to all her friends here. After the program everyone adjourned ad-journed to the dance in the recreation recre-ation hall, sponsored by the Ward MIA. Dancing was enjoyed until midnight to music furnished by the Losee brothers orchestra. Among the out-of-town old residents resi-dents who came for the big day were R. E. Wolfe, and Mr. and Mrs. Hauser, from Payson, Mr. and Mrs. Benson Egan and family, from Pro-vo, Pro-vo, Mr. and Mrs. George D. Shipley, Ship-ley, from Oak City, Russell Jackson, Jack-son, Mr. and Mrs. Kimball Johan-sen, Johan-sen, Mrs. Frances Stout, from Salt Lake City; Mrs. Otto Anderson and family, from Orem; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Walker from Springville; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Williams, from Kanosh; Mr. and Mrs. Angus Jones, from St. George, and Mr., and Mrs. Ed Henrie, from Panguitch. |
