Show OLD BOARD FALLS DOWN I A. C. Regents Attempt To Hold Meeting I And Have A Row. I The lloaul of Ticgetsn of tho Agricultural Agri-cultural College attempted to hold an oillcial meeting at the college yesterday, yester-day, but owing to the determined opposition olfeied by the thiee new members, It was impossible to organ, b.e, and tho meeting was called off. Of tho old membcis of thcboaul, thiee were preset, Whltmore, Mc-Allstei- and Owen, President, McCor-nick McCor-nick being In Europe. Thcso gentlemen gentle-men wanted to go ahead with the business In hand, picscntcri atelegiam showing that I'res. McCornlck was acquiescent, but lllshopStohl, backed by Mis. Gates and Thomas Smart, fought so vehemently that It soon became be-came apparent that effort was useless. Neither side would yield and there was no meeting, Just what Is back of the move Is a matter or conjecture and considerable difference of opinion. However, it Is now generally conceded that thero Is a terrific light on to oust Kerr from the Presidency of tho Institution If not to oust him, at least to support Prof. Merrill hi tlm personal fight between him and lvetr. It was believed that at tills meeting, had It been held, President Korr would hao prefcred charge against Prof. Men 111 and ask-ed ask-ed his dismissal. Prof. Merrill would ha had opportunity to defend himself, him-self, of course. It Is conceded that both Stohl and Mrs. Gates aro with Merrill and incidentally Thomas Smart Joined them, at least in this their first move. Howeor, the tight against Kerr docs not come alon'j from a Merrill faction, but 'tis said that the state admlulstiatlon, Including practically H all big Stato republicans are against H him for icasous they deem amply H sutllclent, and 'tis said by some that H I'res. McCornlck is In Europe today, H at the Instigation of those who wish H to depose Pies. Kerr. H Be that as it may It is certain that H thero was omc decidedly stiong feel- H lugs manifest at the college yesterday, H and that this opposition to a meeting H at this tlmo was a part of some plan H know n better to those paity to It than H any others. H In Chapel. H At the chapel exercises, Trastcc H Owen mado a rousing speech in favor H of the college, and finally the clamor H of the students brought Trustee Mc- Alllstcr forward also. Ho made an H other red-hot talk. Moth gentlemen H spoke of tho loyalty of the old board H to the Institution and let go some H strong statements that elicited great H applause from the assembled body. H Mrs. Gates made a few brief remarks. H The Students. Tho student body on Thursday H signed a petition favoring President H Kerr, and gave every evidence of be- H lng with him to a man. At tin i'I chapel exeiclscs they showed their H feelings for him by the uso of placards H on which were written such words as H "With Prcs. Kerr, 'We Still Live"; 1 "Long Live Kerr," this with H blank dashes underneath for another H name, ami with question inaiks after H it. There weie oUicr placards of a ,H like natuic. H It is not known when another H meeting of the board will be held. H |
