Show THE COMMITTEE SEES NUNN Latter Agrees To Sell If Logan's Plant Is Given As Security. If there Is no legal Impediment in j tlio way of a second mortgage belnp ! placed on tire Logan city light plant, , and the city council will agree with the conclusion of Major Robinson, ' . Hon. Joseph Howch and Melvln J. Ballard after a three liours' consulta- J tlon with Mr. Nunn of tho Tcllurldo Tower Co.,' the Hercules system of ' this city will become the property of jkm, Logan city in as short time as tho VVtf- negotiations can bo carried out. The above named gentlemen, as a committee appointed by the Electric LJght Committee, spent three hours with Mn Sunn In Salt Lake Wednesday Wednes-day and went over the whole situation here. The consultation was a most pleasant one, Mr. "Nunn going Into all matters with them In a frank, open manner, and evincing a disposition to get at the root of the trouble and settle set-tle It If possible. Tho question of tho purchase of the Hercules system In Logan was the point In hand, of course, and In response as to whether j the system would bo sold Mr. Nunn replied that it had cost $45,000 and would be sold for ?:i5,000 plus 0 per cent Interest on the Investment. He was obdurate on this point and then ft, went ocr tho whole grounds with the committee In such a way that his de- roand did not appear extraordinarily exorbitant. The committee then made the In-qulry In-qulry as to whether this amount paid In $5,000 yearly instalments would be acceptable. Tho answer was in the anirmatlve, and the next question asked of Mr. Nunn was as to what security he would require. He suggested sug-gested that a second mortgage on the Xj2 clt,y P,ant' would answer If such action H qrTtm. ls within Iceal bounds. He said that Jj on this score he would leave the mat- j ter In tho hands of his own and Logan city's attorney, i Mr. Nunn was asked as to whether he could or would turn over his Logan distribution on a lease proposition such as that suggested by Councilman Hatch at a recent public meeting, i He asked whether under that leaso ' his own system was to remain Intact and bo kept in repair. The proposition proposi-tion could not possibly be carried out otherwise. As we understand lt.the committee, after this careful Investigation Is, In favor of buying It tho city can legally glvo Its plant as security. In case this plan cannot' be carried out success- fully, the committee hopes that the 1 city will be able to oiler some other j . acceptable security. As the matter now stands, it Is up to the attorneys I to now decide on the legality of the proposed movo and then the matter will bo presented to the Logan city council. Some Figures. The committee feels quite encouraged encour-aged from Its visit and comes back moro than pleased at possessing a light plant. In Mr. Nunn's opinion the plant has made an excellent showing, show-ing, has been constructed at a minimum mini-mum cost, and In reply toCongiessman Howell's question as to whether ho would buy, said that he would glo Logan city dollar for dollar, spot cash, for Its plant. In tlgming out the possibilities of paying Tor tho Hercules system In case It is bought, some llgurlng was Indulged Indulg-ed In that met Mr. Nunn's unqualllled uppioval and certainly shows up well. It Is estimated that with a monopoly In Logan and lights at X1 cents each, the city will have a revenue of $2,000 monthly, or fcU.OOO a year; this Is counting on 0,000 lights, which Is considered con-sidered tho minimum, and docs not Include any revenue from motors, and other power sold. Receipts. 0,000 lights :U,000 Expenses. Operating expense 8,000 lntcieston tond :s,"00 Extensions 2,500 Tcllurlde purchase 5,000 Interest on purchase 1,800 Total 120,800 This leaves a total of $.'1,200 clear profit jeaily. It will be noticed that tho expenses are figured very liberally, and It is not taken into account that $2,500 spent yearly in extensions must necessarily cover the city very shortly and greatly Increase the revenue. The interest on outstanding accounts' decreases every year, as a matter of course, so the profit must necessarily Increase rapidly. It is also stated that with the new unit Installed, fully 150 surplus horse-power would be on hand. Mr. Nunn said that the Tcllurlde could and would use this delivered de-livered at this Logan canyon plant, at $1.50 per horse per month, a total of $2,700 a year, or half the yearly payment pay-ment to the Tcllurlde people for their Logan system. In case this purchase cannot bo made or the city council ictuses to ratify any such proposed purchase, then tho only thing left to do is to tax and tight the situation to a standstill. It Is to be hoped, however, that some satisfactory and amicable settlement of the difficulty can bo made. |
