Show Another One Alive. I One of the first Members of Lo ft gan choir Makes Slight Correction. Salt Lake City May 1), 1005. Lqoan Rki-uiimcan: I saw in a Jatc issuoof the Desert News u notice , of a Jieunlon of the Logan choir held tfcaflKjhecently '" honor of Its honored lead- or, Alex. Lewis, in which it Is stated that of tho original pcrsous who com- J posed it, Geo. L. Farrell and Mary Birdneau are the only ones now living. liv-ing. This is an error, as the writer is also al-so one of (he original six who llrst composed tho choir, In the year 1SG0, whose names were as follows: Geo. L. Farrell, chorister; L. W, Birdneau, violin: Enoch Lewis, tenor; Mary Birdneau Bird-neau and sister, soprano and alto, and tho writer, bass. I As we sat on Sundays In the log building used both as a school room and meeting house, with its dirt roof and carthern lloor, each one sitting upon a piece of house log wo little thought how renowned thecholr would become In latter years under the leadership lead-ership of G. L. Farrell, S. 0. Smith, C. C. Goodwin, Evan Stevens and Alex. Lewis. For twenty-four years' tho writer was a member of tho choir, and many of tho happiest hours of my life were those passed In the most plea-! plea-! sant association with tho members, j , w ho soon became, not merely member's of tho same choir, but as actual mem-V mem-V bers of one family. Members since &NfS&- then have passed "over tho river" and I & borne like David Lamorcaux and tho writer cannot expect to remain behind be-hind much longer, but (he thought that when all meet again upon the other side we may again join in songs of praise to the Lord of Heaven is a very delightful one. Hoping thecholr under new leadership leader-ship may continue to hold its deserved reputation as one of the best In the state. I close this sketch of Its early existence In 180. James II. Martineau. |
