Show Davis, the Millionaire. It lun't right that Henry (Jass-away Davis, Demociatlc nominee for the Vlce-presjdency, should go thiough this campaign without getting some advertising for that million lie lias dumped into a rat hole, otherwise the Democratic campaign fund, so wc gladly give the following letter a little lit-tle shove. The editor has met the writer, Is acquainted with many of of the men at Linton, Indiana, Indi-ana, to whom he is writing, and furthermore fur-thermore conducted a newspaper in western Maryland, near the scene of Mr.Davls's operations. We can vouch for Mr. Heenan, and In a measure for his statements. The letter reads; Wcsternport, Md., Aug. 23, 1001. Mr. Ed. Johnson, and all true lovers of liberty and human rights, 1 wish to j call your attention to the gieat lin- I portanee of pushing the work of social- ism. The Democratic party has at last sold out, body and soul, to the plutocrats pluto-crats and money power. Mr. Parker Is a gold-bug of the deepest dye. Mr. Davis Is a tyrant and a .scalper of human hu-man laboy. 1 have spent nine weeks In West Virginia and Maryland where Mr. Davis has large interests In land, timber, coal, coal mines and railroads. At all of his works the lowest rate of wages Is paid, and in the mines tho amount of "dead" work Imposed on the miners Is almost unbearable. And 1 tell you, notwithstanding Mr. Davis' nice worded letter that appear-in appear-in last week's papers, no Labor Union need apply for recognition at his works where lie can prevent it, i iiavo been over the W. Va. Central R. R. which he once o,wncd together with Its mines and lands and even whole cities and And the conditions were always al-ways bad and still exist. He, with othcis, are now engaged In constructing construct-ing a new railroad at Klklns, W. Va., and also mines. Here you And him employing cheap foreign labor at the lowest possible price. I hope the honest and respectable Democrats of this country will rise up and wipe out of existence this monstrous mon-strous scheme which Is only intended to dostroy the good work undertaken by the various reform elements of tho country. I hope much good will result re-sult from thlscampalgn, and 1 trust this fall will for all time to come put tills rotten monster of so-called Democratic Demo-cratic party out of business. Itcrush-cd Itcrush-cd us under Cleveland, but the Parker and Davis combination would not stop at all; it would grind our very vitals out Into prolits for corporations. corpora-tions. 1 could write a thousand pages and then not tell half the wrongs done to the people by the Davis interests. Give my regards to all Inquiring friends. .1. C. Hkknan. |
