Show Sabbath Observance. The statement that nineteen different dif-ferent plcnlclng outfits came from the canyon late Sunday evening brings us again to a phase of life we have touched upon before the matter of Sabbath observance. Tho fact that nineteen or even forty-three families or parties picnic in the canyon each Sunday is an Indication of hot weather and necessity of recreation, rather than a degeneracy or Irreverence, and emphasizes the necessity of the observance ob-servance of all National and State holidays and the creation of such other days of lclsuic as will make It unnecessary un-necessary for the people to go to the canyons or elsewhere on Sunday. Men who remain tied closely to their business busi-ness through the winter months, and who during the summer months refuse re-fuse to give cither themselves or their employes days of lecrcatlon during the week, take advantage of Sunday usually, and at the same time force their employes to do so. Iluslness men all should lead a less strenuous llfc, mako a little less money possibly, but at the same time enjoy pleasures that can never be theirs If they confine themselves to such an extent that health is ruined. Money isn't the whole thing, and besides, whose business Is either made or lost by giving or not giving and taking frequent holdldays through tho summer sum-mer months. Business Is practically dead and most, people could take a dav or two every other week for pleasuic and recreation, loso but little and gain in health and spirits fully a hundred per cent. This would obviate any necessity of making Sunday a day of pleasure and would lead to a more general observance of the Sabbath. And while touching on the Sabbath question, there Is one other thing that might be done that would lead to a more general attendance at Sabbath 'day services and more earnest devout-ncss devout-ncss on the part of tho worshippers, and that Is to make the services as brief as is consistent. Wc do not believe be-lieve that the Lord's business should be neglected nor slighted In the summer sum-mer time, but most of us aie human and few arc of such a make-up that a combination of haid scats, hot weather, weath-er, and long drawn-out sermons will not cause us to get a little fidgety and really lose the good that we might get were the speakers considerate, and the services conducted In such a way as to lend as much biovlty as-possible. |
