Every morning she digs and hoes on her small farm, and every aftornoon sho pushes through tho streets with her little go-cart, soiling her fresh and excellent ex-cellent vegetables. She has a host of regular customers, and these customers wait for her every day. And they do well to wait for her, too, for she always brings them truck that has been gathered but a few hours. Eleanor's farm Is loaned to her by the Philadelphia Vacant Lot Cultivation Cultiva-tion Association, a charity of an unusually un-usually beneflclent kind. This association asso-ciation has 200 acres of vacant land that certain wealthy Phladelphlans havo entrusted to It until the time when they shall need tho land to build upon. Theso 200 acres are loaned in patches to such peoplq as arc- unable to keep up tho fierce- struggle for an existence in a great city. |
