Show Reviving the Curfew. The people of Antrim havo hailed with delight tho decision of tho town commissioners to revive tho ancient custom of ringing tho curfew nightly. At Antrim, as at a great many other towns in Ulster, tho curfew was In former generations rung regularly; but the practice, like that associated with tho maypole, has gradually died out until now tho places where It still lingers nro few and far between. Tho action of tho commissioners Is based on purely sentimental grounds. They have simply revived an old custom because be-cause the people like to hear the bell and aro willing to pay for tho privilege, privil-ege, as Is Indicated by tho fact that a sum of money to pay all expenses has been handed oer to tho vestry of tho parish church. |
