Show SUBPOENAING OF WITNESSES. During tho past week scores of people peo-ple have been in attendance at court while the Knnen case was being tried. Most of the people came from Lcvvlston and many of them were men of business affairs who could hardly afford to come to Logan unless it was absolutely necessary. It vvas proven in the trial that many of them knew nothing about' tho case whatever, what-ever, but, being supoenacd, felt obligated ob-ligated under the law to come, of couisc. Many of the people complain that they were witnesses In former cases and that up to the present thoy ha.vc received no fees or mileage. For the general Information of people thus subpoenaed wo state that in all criminal crimi-nal cases wherein the state of Utali is plaintiff, all persons arc compelled to attend court without demanding their fees in advance. This Is not the casein civil mattcis. Witnesses can demand their fee In advance from the officer serving the subpoena In sucli cases. To have witnesses brought down here by the dozens, who know little or nothing about the case on trial, and have no provision made for their fees, Is hardly tho Just the thing for the people. |
