Tho deer paused a moment and took a wondering look at tho man on tho wheel, and then went bounding along tho dry bod of tho big ditch. Storms put on all speed, but tho buok led him a chose of more than a mile, koep-ing koep-ing well ahead of him. Coming to a lock in tho canal tho buck leaped out of the canal at ono bound, cleared tho towpath at another, took to tho Lackawaxon river, crossed to the other sldo, bounded across the track of tho Erie railroad's Hones-dale Hones-dale branch, a few yards ahead of an east-bound coal train, and disappeared Into tho words. |
