Show i Parents' Day. fl, Parents vlsltlni; day at the Wood- H lufTon Wednesday was Indeed one of H " lie most pleasant alTalrs that lias H taken place at the big central school H during the entire school year. In fact, H Ills tho first time in tho history of H the city schools when parents havo turned out in mass as they did on that day for the purpose of inspecting tho regular routine work in the class room. Tho fourteen teachers at tho school are elated ocr the response of the parents to the invitation extended, and well they might bo as over 200 were shown through the several class rooms during tho day. After the regular class work was finished, the wide, spacious hall of the new annex was crowded to capacity capac-ity with parents who listened with Interest to tho creditably rendered program. Every precaution was taken tak-en by the teachers to arrange every thing to the comfort of the visitors and there is no doubt that when next parents' visiting day rolls 'round the meeting of teachers and parents will, for lack of space, hau to adjourn to the Auditorium or elsewhere. The walls of the hall were draped beautifully, beauti-fully, the color scheme being white and pink, with :i splcudld array of pennants furnished by tho pupils and others The windows v.cre touched up with an elegant display of flowers The floors were carpeted with rugs of many oriental designs, making a very attractive lobby and resting place. '"' The genial "Bob" Murdock catered In the serving of refreshments, after the close of the program, which was a feature of the dav's event. The program pro-gram consisted of the following numbers: num-bers: Piano solo James Ltnford. Recitation Genevieve Hart Piano solo Vera Rawlins. Song Beginner's grade. Relation of teacher to pupil Prof. D. C. Jensen. Solo Mclvln J. Ballard, accompanied accompa-nied by Miss Mamie Brown. Piano duet Marlon Clayton and Hazel Anderson. Song Girls, eight grade. Speech Supt. Molyneux At the Benson school there were from fifty to seventy-five parents present pres-ent during the day and many of these expressed pleasure at the smoothness of the regular class work. The program pro-gram after school hours Is reported as having been well rendered and thoroughly thor-oughly enjoyed by the parents Wesley Wes-ley Jacques was the reprcsentatUe of the board of education present and he sought to make the patrons understand under-stand that only a close union between the school and the parents would ac- complish the best results. At the close of tho remarks, Principal Cole asked the parents if they felt that ' they had,.or ought to have, the right , to keep their boys and girls from school a day or two each week that they might work. Tho answer was a very emphatic "no" from a Mr. Ellis of the Fifth ward. During the afternoon after-noon very excellent refreshments were served. Principal Cole and the teachers teach-ers are very gratified at the Interest of the parents and ate contldent that such meetings result in a better mutual mu-tual understanding of the difficulties of both teachers and parents. k |
