Show 1 County Board! 1 With tho selection of a clerk and a treasurer, Tuciday, the county boaid 1 of education Is now thoroughly organ- 1 Ized, as follows: 1 President, Samuel Oldham, Para- 1 0 Iso. , 1 Vice President, C. Z. Harris, Illch- 1 mond. 1 Secretary, Edwin Miles, Smlthlleld. Treasurer, John M. Anderson, Lew"-Iston, Lew"-Iston, The other members of tho board are P. W. Maughan, Wellsvllle; Samuel Thurston, Hyde Park; M. W. Butler, Trenton. There were thiee applications for the clerkship Messrs. Miles, Walters of Wellsvllle, and Joseph A. Smith Jr. of Providence, the last named coming in a few minutes after the selection had been made, however. Mr. Miles, the successful man, Is a son of E. It, Miles Jr., of Smlthlleld, Is reputec' to be very capable, and was granted a $00 monthly salary. The salary of the treasurer, John M. Anddrson, was fixed at $100 a year and he was required to furnish a $20,000 bond, which was put up by four banks of the county, among which the school funds are to be equally divided, said banks paying 2J per cent Interest on dally balances and receiving 7 percent on overdrafts. It was the Intention to divide three-lifths of the money between be-tween the Logan banks, but the Thatcher bank wanted half or nothing, noth-ing, aud received nothing. Several other matters of interest were considered at the Tuesday meeting, meet-ing, not the least of which was that of reopening the Mt- Sterling school, and continuing the Petcrboro, Cacho Junc tion, Clarkston, ' College, Wheeler, Stephenson and Avon schools, which I were to have been closed shortly. The ; Mt. Sterling school will bo reopened or tho children will be hauled to I Wellsvllle, just as the patruns please. The other schools will bo continued. I The following districts have sent In 1 protests against consolidation: Smith-Held Smith-Held two, Trenton, Providence, Mill- I vlllc, Wellsvllle, Pctersboro, Benson, College, Clarkston, Greenville, Hyde Park, Mendon, Young and Stephenson. Tho following standing committees were named: Finance Harris, Maughan, Thurston. Thurs-ton. Teachers and Janitors The entire ! board with Supt. McCarrcy associated.
