Show Benson Ward BENSON, May 31. Tho Rlvrrslde Sewing circle and friends wuie Invited by Mrs. M, M. Reese on Thursday evening to partake of supper. The tables were laden with the choicest of foods' the ouly thing lacking to make it mora enjoyable to the partakers would be music by the Wilson hotel string band. The rooms were beautifully beauti-fully decorated. A booth was erected In one room where Miss Martha Carlisle Car-lisle and MUs Sarah Reese served punch and a variety of fruit. After a laughable game the nights pleasure terminated In an auction to defray some of the club's expenses In buying material. A. V. Reese acted as auctioneer. Mrs. Reese had the articles put in all kinds aud sizes of boxes, and when brought to light by the buyer created no end of laughter. A goodly sum was realized from the sales. A son of Hugh Dowdle was seriously hurt last week by being kicked In the face by a horse. Alma, the son of Philip Purser, was married last Wednesday to Miss Julia McLeod of.' Treasureton, Idaho. Observing Ob-serving the signs of the times we predict pre-dict that several, more couples from here will get in the matrimonial boat this year. The Misses Elizabeth apd Maggie Griffiths, and Naoma and Anna Reese, school teachers, are home once more. Our schools closed last week, and from reports good work was accomplished accom-plished by both Benson and Riverside. The baseball teams of Greenville and Benson played here Saturday, and a big crowd turned out to see the game. The Greenville boys came out victorious by a score of 24 to 18. We consider the Bensonltes did well under un-der the circumstances as they had had little time for practice. Prof. Jesse T. Reese acted as umpire. We are Informed that outside capi-tallsts.already capi-tallsts.already owners of can factories, propose to build a factory here if the farmers contract to plant 100 acres of asparagus. It Is hoped It will be a go, as the profits from an acre are big. More rain, more rest; two more weeks of this kind of weather, and then some. Very little haying done before July this year. |
