Show H A NEWSPAPER CABINET. BBlj Politicians and newspaper men are BBlj already speculating as to the cabinet which' Mr. Taft will choose. It is BBlj clear that ho will have the reins or government entirely in hisown hands, BBlj for Mr. Roosevelt will retire immedl- BBJ , ately to associate only with the lions BBlj of foreign lands and Mr. Root Is a BBJ candidate for election to the senate. BBlj The withdrawal of the strongest mem- BB ber.of the Roosevelt cabinet Is a pretty BB good indication that there will be no BBYJ ( leftovers in the Taft cabinet. It Is BBYj the general feeling In Washington BBlj that the new cabinet will be composed BBYj ot men who have made their mark in BBlj the nation at large but not necessarily BBYj at Washington. In this the cabinet Bfl; will resemble that of McKinlcy, who BB gathered about him the well-known BBYj names of the nation, but names which BBYj had . not then acquired a Washington BBYj halo. Men prominent In the various BBYj avenues of society and trade dq not BBYj need otllcial residence at Washington BBYj to recommend them for cabinet posl- BBYj tlons. Even Mr. Taft's most Intimate BBlj friends do not yet know whether he BBYj has made out a cabinet slate or even BBYj discussed one. What Is pretty cer- BBlj tain, however, Is thatGIITord Plnchot, BBlj chief forester, will enter the cabinet BBlj as secretary of agriculture. Mr. Pin- BBYj chot Is'a specialist who understands BBKiBBBBi BBBBBjbjjiiyi&ivij: as no one else the conservation of the agricultural resources of the country. The department of agriculture is rap-Idly rap-Idly Increasing In Importance, and there Is no better man than Mr. Plnchot Pln-chot to direct the growths This department de-partment is growing and another has grown so that It must now part with some of Its attributes. The postal department de-partment will probably have a director direc-tor of posts to take permanent charge of its executive work. Mr. Hitchcock Js the logical candidate for this position. posi-tion. Such is the Washington gossip about the new cabinet. It is very encouraging, en-couraging, for it shows already that the able Mr. Taft Is going to be capable capa-ble of surrounding himself with able advisers. |
