Show Magrath. Maouatii, Aug. 1:1, 1000 -Magrath Is certainly becoming famous, not for its beauty, sice and people only, but for Its ability to entertain In the finest stylo ever. On the 4th of August Au-gust tho Washington editors who are touring western Canada, visited Magrath, Mag-rath, and thev wdro tendered a royal reception. Tho whole town was out to meet them and the band received them with their national airs such as "Yankee Doodle," "Hall Columbia," "America," etc. They were driven around to see the crops of grain and beets, then back to the assembly hall, where a very Interesting program was carried out and lunch served. Two of the editors replied to a speech of welcome and spoke In most glowing terms of Magratli and the reception given. One of the speakers was from near Klrtland, Ohio, so knew of the Mormons. Ho said he had alwajs been taught to respect them, and considered con-sidered them good neighbors. They were loyal citizens In the United j States and would be tho same In Canada. Can-ada. Of course this pleased the people for they wcio mostly all Mormons. The lsltors were a Jolly bunch of follows, and we cnjntrd entertaining such a crowd as much as they enJoed partaking of our hospitality. If wc did ourselves proud last week them ace 110 words In the dictionary to express what wo did tills week. Lieut. Governor llulgla, of Albetta Province, with his cabinet, accompanied accompan-ied by thrlr wives and daughters, arc louring Alborta, the best and most promising Province In the Dominion. We, the people of Magratli, were lionoied with a three hours' visit. , Arc wo loyal to our government? Well, If you cculd liavo seen us and p.irtaken of the good friendly feeling juii certainly would have been satis-lied satis-lied that wo are. The carriages to convey these distinguished guests mound town were decorated with grain, gaiden stulT and sugar beets, the latter being new to some or most of theso legislators. One called them "turnips" (tho "r" left out, don't you know). They were driven through the Ileitis and were much delighted with the prospects of this country. In the meantime the people had all gathered at the meeting house which had been tastefully decorated with bunting and "Union Jacks," and Mowers of every description. When the Governor entered, every one aroso I with a cheer Dr. Sanders dcllvcied ; tho speecli of welcome, and voiced the sentiments of all present when ho said "They were welcome to our lit-I lit-I tie city and we wore most pleased to see them." After speeches and music a very delicious lunch was served. They returned to their cars feeling good towards everjone, especially those who had looked after their Inner I wants. I Hurrah for the Utah visitors! They I arrived safely yesterday after a verjp j successful trip and by the happy look I on the faces of some of the vlsltois, I one would imagine this a very good K world to live In. |
