It Is considered consid-ered tho grandest prlvato mausoleum In France. It Is also tho oddest of resting places for tho dead. Tho tomb from the outside looks llko a Russian chapel. Inside It Is a combination of studio and shrine. Relics and memories mem-ories of mademoiselle nre spread about Just as If she had left the apartment apart-ment a moment ngo. Brushes, paints, and easels and the unfinished sketches tell of the sudden death of the girl and how sho was snatched from her life's work. An nltar Is opposite the entrance and fresh flowers are kept here dally. Below this chapel in tho crypt rest the bones of this brilliant young woman. Many visitors do not find their way to Passy. Whllo It Is true that cemeteries as sights have passed out of vogue since our puritan grandparents UBod to think them tho proper visiting place on Sunday, still many an American who has read the book of Marie Bashkirtseff makes a pilgrimage to her tcmb when in Paris. |
