Show FfflGKTENS HIS BROTHER RATS. Rodents Will Not Associate With Belled Companion. One of the old school-book stories of another generation told about the ruso of a porter, who caught n rat and fastened a bell to Its neck. When It wns turned loose again and ran through the building all other ratB left In fright at tho strange member of their species that tvos trying to associate wltu them. The Janitor of a hank In Cleveland followed the Idea In this old story, and It works out Just as the school books say It did. Traps set every night were filled with tho rodents, and yet there seemed to be no end to their ravages. One morning tho Janitor Jani-tor chloroformed n big fellow nnd fas tened a wire loop securely to Its neck. To this loop were attached three tiny tinkling bells. Mr. Bat was revived re-vived by being placed beforo an electric elec-tric fan nnd then allowed to go again. Ills bells havo since been heard tinkling tink-ling behind the walls, but ho Is a lono-somo lono-somo wanderer through what was once a populous rat city. All the rats havo left this, building and ho Is monarch mon-arch of all ho surveys. Probably ho would prefer to "dwell In tho midst of niarms" again rather thn "reign In this desolate place." |
