A very enjoyable time was hnd by imuiy of the good citizens ofllyde Park Thursday evening, June 13, On thnt evening the school teachers teach-ers and graduates of (he Hyde Park district schools decided to have n good time, nnd to gh'c their friends n time also. Right roynlly were they entertained.At .7:30 o'clock thero "was a banquet nt the school house. The invited guests were mostly graduates of the Hyde Pnrk school, numbering fourty-four, nnd many others -who were college students. About one hundrcd-twenty-five persons sat down to tho banquet and listened list-ened to the following program : Speech of welcome, II. E. Ilnncey, Jr., Graduate of 1903. Response, trustee JM W. D. IIurrcn,n graduate of the U. of U Music, Mandoline and Guitar band under the able leadership of Willnrd Hancey. This was followed by a banquet toast to the ladies, by Prof. Lyman Ly-man Dnines. Tho gentleman's toast was filled with wit and humor, hu-mor, as well as sound sense. Prof. Willnrd Bnllam, in nn umpromptu speech on "How to Keep Young", did himself proud. Ex-school teachers O. G. nyde and Geo. Z. Lamb gave those present somo good 'sound advice. Lorenzo Petersen also gave a brief nnd appreciated 'talk. A resolution presented by R. II. Hyde. "That we establish a 9th grade school in nyde Park" wns passed unanimously. Prof. George S. Dnines, principal princi-pal of the schools was master of ceremonies, and witl! ' his good nature and ready wit kept things moving along "quite smart." At 10 o'clock nil repnired to tho hall, where dnncing wns indulged in to the sntisfnetion of nil. ' Our school teachers deserve grent credit for the able ninnner in which they hnvo conducted their schools during tho past season, sea-son, nnd for the proficiency attained at-tained by their scholars. The trustees are able wide awnkc men and nre doing much to Jcecp our schools up to the required stnndard. Ve feel thnt there nre not the' number of grn'duntes entering the colleges that should do so. "We have hore in Hyde Park n great many bright, intelligent students, but few of them nfter grndunting from the district schools continue the good work. ' At our Sunday services today president 'William Budge, of the Logan Temple, 'gnvc n very comprehensive com-prehensive nnd interesting discourse dis-course upon man's lerntionship to God, nnd each other, nnd our duties ns Saints of God. It wns a plensure to many pioneers of Hyde Pnrk to ngnin clnsp hnnds with President Budge, whom they knew nnd loved over 40 years ago. The majority of Hyde Park's old folks wero out at tlio Old Folks reunion in Logan Inst Pri-dny. Pri-dny. From the expressions henrd from them, it wns n dny long to bo remembered. - |
