Show Qiseased Cattle in Cache The Salt Lake Herald Is lesponslble for the following rather startling bit of information: "That there is tuberculosis In dairy Sherds In this state has been demonstrated demon-strated beyond any possibility of doubt, ra Dr. Frederick, of the State Agricultural Agricul-tural college, has been making tests in the vicinity or Logan and found a I Dumber of cases. The animals were at once killed and In cacli case an autopsy confirmed the diagnosis, Is'lno cows belonging to dairy herds were found to be affected and In a report made by Dr. Frederick to I)r Realty, secretary of the state board of health, he states that he has reason to believe that there many cases In the state. He lias found instances where the animals wcro slaughtered and the meat sold in the public market. Even worso is the fact that all the Infected cases were In dairy herds. It is gen-erady gen-erady accepted that this is the most common form in which the disease 13 communicated, especially to young children, who are peculiarly suscept ible to the germ. No tests nave I cen made near Salt Lake but Dr. Reatty Is convinced that dairy herds near here are similarly alTccted. Dr. Beatty Says. "I wish ttiat when there Is the slightest suspicion that the disease may exist In a herd 1 should beatonce r.otlllcd. 1 would Immediately have tests made The tuberculin test Is infallible and we can readily tell when the disease exists ( "The sooner the government takes the matter up and makes some provisions pro-visions for lighting the disease the better. It is a vciy serious matter. Dr. Frederick found cases where the flesh of infected animals had been sold in the public market at Logan and I am convinced that the sameconditlons obtain at and near Salt Lake. Whenever When-ever we tlnd a case the animal is at once destroyed but there is no provision provi-sion in Utah for the taking of syste-matic syste-matic precautlonc. It Is a matter with which the government will have to deal at once." |
