To those who know anything of pre- Ions prospecting on what Is known as "Mlneial Point, about eight miles southeast of Avon, the news that development de-velopment on the property is to be pushed now and as rapidly as possible will be most gratifying. Mineral Point is now In the hands of Willaid Cranney, A F. Farr. N. W. Kimball, W. G Davis and another one or two, and on Monday a couple of practical miners were sent to the property to timber up fifty foot tunnel that was dug several years ago. At the end of the tunnel Is said to be a well defined eight foot vein of rich copper ore, and when preliminary work is done the tunnel will be pushed further into tlio mountain. The present owners arc confident that development will bring the property to the front rapidly. Mountain of Iron. Mineral Point is the oldest known prospect in Cacho county. In early days the showings there caused no little lit-tle excitement, the whole top of that mountain being a mass of Iron. At that time, however, this Iron was believed be-lieved to be sliver. Attempts were made to vrork the property, and in the sixties not a few of the prominent men of tills valley were interested there. A co-operative plan of working failed, and then the property fell into different hands Rich Copper Ore. There never was a time that those directly and Indirectly interested did not believe that beneath that great cap of iron was to be found coppcrorc. A search was made for it and a 280-foot 280-foot tunnel was driven. At some time or other ore running . '131 per cent copper cop-per was taken out. Development work stopped for tome reason, however, how-ever, and the property finally passed Into other hands. In an etfort to find the contact with the main vein, a tunnel was opened dovVn the mountain side from the old opening and at a depth of fifty feet a rich vein was struck. The present owners believe this lead will take them into a magnificent body of ore. Sure It's There. As said before, few prospectors doubt Mineral Point; all say the ore is tticre. Some Interesting stories arc told about the property, onn of which is to the effect that an Idaho, man once an owner in the oroperty, wrote friends here to get the prospect Into their hands He knew Mineral Point like a book, and at a point in Idaho where lie was, development of a mountain moun-tain Identical with the Cache valley hill brought forth a great mine within with-in ! short time. It Is to be hoped that the present holders will find It possible to do the work necessary to demonstrate the possibilities there. |
