Show FIGHT WITH ROBBERS. One Bobber Killed and the Other Probably Fatally Injured. Advices from Addy, a town fifty miles north of Spokane, says that a desperate battle between officers and two highwaymen took place near there Tuesday night. At the end of the fusillade one robber was dead and the other so badly wounded be will probably proba-bly die. The robbers held op two citizens of Addy. Deputy sheriffs Duvey and Sal-vadc Sal-vadc persued and overtook them. The officers ordered them to hold up their hands. The robbers pretended to comply, com-ply, then opened fire. The officers replied, killing one and crippling and capturing the other. Neither had been identified but it is suspected one may be the highwayman who held up the Northern Pacific train near Rathdrum Friday night. The wounded man is thought to be Spragne Welle The men were under arrest on telegraphed orders from the sheriff at Colville for holding ap some prospectors. They made a break for liberty, but being unacquainted with the country, ran into a bend in the Colville river and were caught in a trap. The pursuing crowd repeatedly called on them to surrender. A shot waa fired to frighten then aad the fugitives returned the fire. |
