Yefcterday was a beautiful day and when the Democratic feosts began gathering around the opera house at 10 o'clock an ideal atmospheric at-mospheric condition prevailed, again proving the truth of the oW adage that the sun shines alike upon the just and the unjust. At 1 J o'clock the building was well filled when the convention was Cfelled to order hp ("Vinnt-ir f.hir. nsan Blair. Bishop E. R. Owen was appointed ap-pointed temporary chairnju and Joseph Ojuinaiy temporary eecre-tary, eecre-tary, and after the appointment of the usual committees, the convention conven-tion adjourBed until 1 p.m. It was 2 o'clock when Chairman Owen rapped for order, feu t the convention went straight tobuei- ness. Upon the eport -of the committees, the following permanent perman-ent organization was seated- Chairman Jamee A. Langton. Vice-Chairmen J, I. Shepherd, Mcs.S. Hollaed. Secretaries L. j. Clark, Lucy Alien. Chaplain E. K. Miles. Sergeant - at - Arris N. Vi . ow.oa.-y- yjy Tiien came oominationH for county commi&si.mers. William Spark?,. Nepbi Tarbet, J. Pond i aud Robert Reeder were named,' and Tarbet was nominated by the following vote: Sparks 10, Tarbet Tar-bet 153, Pond 94, Seeder 34 Aivin Crockett and William Edwards were neit named. Aj number of delegations seconded lid wards. Crockett waa then withdrawn, with-drawn, and Edwards was nominated nomi-nated by acclamation. For the third commissioner, O-H. O-H. Anderson of Hyrum, H. B. Nielson of Millville and Gideon Olson of Paradise wirj named. Anderson was nominated on the second, ballot by the f iltowing vote: A.udersou 151, Kiujj 81. Olson iC E. li. ' On the second bailor, Farrel was nominated by the following vote: Fairell 143, Owen 91, Quin-ney Quin-ney 23 The convention then adjourned until 7:30. The platform was a bone of va6t contention daring the afternoon. It was reported and read, but portions por-tions of it were found ojectionable aud it wai referred back. One plank which gave great offense, read as follows: "We condemn the action of those Democrats who aidpd in electing the present incompetent county commissioners." This plank was knocked out by a majority vote of the convention but not until after I. C Thoreson, Joseph Monsou, Wm. Murray and others had attacked each other bitterly, while Moroni Price, A. G. Barber, E. R. Owen and others pleaded for harmony. |
