Show : 1 . 'r John L. Seymour to appear at SUSC forum Dr. John L. Seymour, consulting con-sulting author and musician at Southern Utah State College, will provide the concluding program for the Slimmer Forum Series at the college on Tuesday, July 30 at 12 noon in the SUSC Recital Hall. Dr. Seymour will discuss, and demonstrate through piano excerpts, the adaptation of the writings of William Shakespeare to opera. The program has special significance for those involved with the current Utah Shakespearean Festival as participants or patrons. , Dr. Seymour has composed nine operas and many other musical works in past years and is still vitally involved in the area of musical composition. He is currently working on a music work based on the Book of Mormon. ' The Seymour opera, "In the Pasha'si Garden," was performed per-formed in the Metropolitan Opera House by Lawrence Tibtx-tts and Helen Jeppson. Another opera, "Ramona," was premiered at Brigham Young University in 1971. This presentation was followed by the presentation at BYU of two of Dr. Seymour's ballet pantomimes. Dr. Seymour traveled extensively ex-tensively in Europe and the Orient as a student of music, literature, and drama. Mary Garden, the noted opera singer of the 20's, became interested in his music and invited him to spend a summer on the French Riviera as her guest. Dr. Seymour taught at Sacramento State College for 20 years and was also a public lecturer, operaloguist, and dramatic reader for the University of California at Berkeley, where he has previously received a bachelor's degree in liberal arts, a master's degree in Slavic languages, and a doctorate in drama and libretto. |
