Show Senior Little League nears end; State Bank holds lead TEAM STANDINGS State Bank 11 1 Cal-Pacific 10 3 Utah International 8 4 Canyonlands 8 4 Del Rich 5 7 Parowan 5 7 So. Utah Mortuary 5 8 TWA 1 9 Cedar Glass 1 10 State Bank picked up a pair of victories during weeks play in the Senior Little League to virtually assure them of the league title, while California Pacific tallied three victories and moved from fourth place last week Into second place in the standings. For State Bank the two victories vic-tories were easy ones for them. They decked TWA 23 to 1 behind be-hind the one-hit pitching of It was Hirschi picking up the mound victory against SUM. Cal.-Pac. moved out to a 4 0 lead after four innings of play and held on for the 7-4 victory. Lee Holmes suffered the loss. The third victory of the week was over Del Rich with Hirschi and Kary Cox on the mound for the victory. Oscar Hulet and Rick Rollo were on the mound for Del Rich. Schoppmann and Hirschi both homered for Cal.-Pac. Cal.-Pac. Parowan also moved up the standings with a pair of victories. victor-ies. The Parowan crew belted Southern Utah Mortuary 22-1 and downed Cedar Glass 11-4. Against SUM Parowan pushed in 7 runs in the first Inning on one hit, sent 13 men to the plate in the second and scored nine runs on just two hits. Bret Smith. Steve Stoker hurled the Bankers to a 6-0 victory over ov-er Southern Utah Morutary. He gave up three hits. TWA's only hit and only run was a homer by Richard Bauer in the first inning of play. In that contest Stoker homered in the third. Against SUM the Bankers pushed In four runs in the first inning of play and coasted to the victory. Stoker collected 14 strikeouts over the seven innings of play. Meanwhile California Pacific made the big jump with a 7-4 win over Southern Utah Mortuary, Mor-tuary, scored a 9-5 win over Canyonlands and downed Del Rich by a score of 10-6. Brian Hirschi and David Mid-dleton Mid-dleton were on the mound for the Canyonlands victory. Kevin Schoppmann was the big hitter with 3 hits in 3 trips including two doubles and he scored four runs. Kim Neilson suffered the loss for Canyonlands, but homered hom-ered for his team. Lamoreaux picked up the mound victory over Cedar Glass. Cedar Glass held a 4-3 lead at the end of three Innings but Parowan pushed in two runs on one hit In the fourth to take the lead, which they held for the victory. In other action Del Rich belt-ed belt-ed out a 8-1 victory over Utah International. Walker Mel'llng turned in a fine mound performance per-formance for the win. UI was held to just three hits In the contest. Rick Rollo belted a three run homer in the seventh for the victors. Canyonlands pulled out a narrow victory over TWA 8-7 in the other game of the week. Kim Neilson and Doug Hall shared the mound duties for the winners. Trailing after two innings Canyonlands pushed in four runs on two hits In the third, including a home run by Neilson, to take the lead. Bauer and Bill Engle were on the mound for the losers. |
