Show Eluniiiiig, snooting earneri claim 89-56 opening win The Cedar High School Red-men, Red-men, shot and rebounded their way to a one-sided 89-56 victory over Bryce Valley Saturday night to open the 1974-75 basketball season. The Redmen completely dominated the rebounding in the action, and despite their inability to hit consistantly from the outside, were able to keep the visiting Mustangs in check throughout the entire contest. The Redmen moved out to a 22-10 22-10 lead by the end of the first quarter of play and Coach Dick Hobbs had cleared his bench as they moved to a convincing 41-26 margin at the intermission. the road to take on the Manti Templers Wednesday night at Manti. The Templers also won a impressive victory in their opening this past week. Saturday, Satur-day, November 30 the Redmen will be back on their home court taking on White Pine High School of Ely, Nev. In the JV contest the Cedar City crew walked off to a 79-37 victory utilizing the fast break to control the game. The JV's moved out to a 22-7 lead in the first quarter of play held a 41-19 lead at the half time after Coach Hobbs had cleared the bench. The contest got a little wild and wooley, but the JV's continued their fast break pace to control the game. Had the Redmen been able to connect from the free throw line, the margin of victory would have been even greater. Bryce Valley, on the other hand, relied on foul shooting to keep in the contest. The visitors hit 12 of 12 in the first half of play and finished the game with 24 of 30 from the charity stripe. That compares to just 11 of 28 for the Redmen. Probably the best period of ' play for the high scoring Redmen was the third period when the starting five consisting of Steven and Mike Hair, Robert Shirts, Scott Burns and Coby Leavitt, displayed a period of fine ball control as well as some fine outside shooting and the ability to adapt to the fast break as well. Five of the Redmen scored in the double figures led by Leavitt with 16. Robert Shirts hit for 14, Brad Blackner tanked 13, Scott Burns added 12 and E. J. Corry had 10. This week the Redmen will be given a tougher test as they go on HIGH FOR REBOUND. E. J. Corry of the Cedar High Redmen, 35, goes high for rebound against Bryce Valley.
