Treasure Chest, Christmas Parade scheduled in Cedar City The official Christmas opening for Cedar City w ill be Friday and Saturday Nov. 29 and 30 with a host of special activities planned through the cooperative effort of the Cedar City Jaycees and the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce. Com-merce. One of the major events of the Yuletide Season for shoppers in Cedar will be Cedar City's Treasure Chest where cash prizes valued at over $1500 and other special awards will be Christmas Parade and the sponsoring of the -first official visit of Santa Claus to the community. Keith Workman, general chairman, for the Jaycee Christmas program, announced that plans have been completed for the special events. Bob Barwick is serving as chairman of the lighting project; the Christmas parade is- under, $. direction of Pat Creamer and ' Santa's visit is under the direction of Sam Workman. Schedule of events call for the Christmas Parade to be staged on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. Santa's visit will follow immediately im-mediately at the Union Pacific Railroad depot where he will distribute treats to children throughout the area. The Christmas lights will officially of-ficially be turned on that same evening at dusk and will be on each evening throughout the remainder of the holiday season, Workman indicated. Residents from throughout the area are invited to come to Cedar City and enjoy these special events and be on hand for the first of four weeks of Treasure Chest drawings. presented by participating merchants. Over 30 winners will be announced at that time and each week ov er $400 in cash prizes plus a series of bonus prizes will be awarded at each weekly drawing. Winners of the cash certificates cer-tificates will be able to redeem the prizes, at face value, at any of the participating sotres. In cooperation with the effort the Jaycees have planned a series of events for Saturday, Nov. 30 to officially open the holiday season. Plans for the yuletide season in Cedar City took a giant step forward this past weekend when the Cedar City Jaycees began erecting the Christmas lights on Main Street.
