"We are very gratified to receive the tapes and slides and will have the program available for public viewing." The program w as developed as an exercise which could feasibly be used to help elementary school pupils develop oral and written language skills. Other class projects included an old fashioned pancake breakfast, break-fast, the play "You're in Love Charlie Brown," and lye soap making. One group attended a local auction, purchased a pig, slaughtered and cooked it for the class. Social activities popular in Iron County between 1890 and 1910 have been made into a special slide-cassette presentation presen-tation and donated to Southern Utah State College Special Collections by a SUSC education class. The project resulted from a group assignment in Education 343, Teaching Language Arts in the Elementary School. The 20 minute presentation was developed by students Diane Bennett, Mapleton; Phyllis Embley, Cedar City, and Michael Kapesos, Canyon. British Columbia. Some 40 slides were made from photographs in the Special Collections files with the narration primarily adapted from Luella Adams Dalton's "History of Iron County." SUSC instructional Media resources were utilized for photography and recording materials. Backup help for the recording was obtained from other class members. Dr. Phil Carter, class instructor, said.
