Show Lions seek Property for Park PAROWAN--A delegation from the Parowan Lions Club met with the council. They voiced concern about the status of the Howard Ward property near the swimming swim-ming pool park. Frank Adams stated that the Lions would like a grant through the city to purchase the property with a goal of making a park out of the area in question. Mr. Ward indicated that he would not overlook the planning and zoning commission and the buyer concerning his property. Mayor Gurr suggested that the people interested in the property and the city engineers be brought together to discuss the possibility of a trade for other land. Mr. Ward indicated he would sell for between $16-17,000. The Lions Club reported that they have recieved a bid on the "bubble cover" for the swimming swim-ming pool. The bid was $35,000. It would have a thrust with Flexoglass replacable panels. Plans also call for a sun deck outside the bubble. Police Chief Jim Broadwell met with the council and presented an applicant for a third police officer that he has proposed the city hire. The application was made by a Cedar City man. The safety committee will meet before a decision will be made on this matter. Mr. Gordon Adams and Mr. Duane Lamoreaux met to present the block they would like to develop. They stated that since there are no interior streets, it will not be a "subdivision." "sub-division." He stated that there would be nice homes of "minimum size" and no mobile homes or livestock would be allowed. The lots would have water rights with them. Mr. Adams stated that if the city would oil the streets to the curb and gutter he would be glad to put curb and gutter in. The main concern of the developers was the sewer. Councilman Jim Benson stated that they would have to follow the line extension agreement. Mr. Gale Adams, representing California-Pacific, told the council they -have received an application to serve Austin LeFevre. He stated that LeFevre is closer to the city lines. At the present time Cal-Pac and the city have an agreement about the areas they will serve. It was suggested that LeFevre work with the other men planning plan-ning to develop on up the lane from him. Mr. Vance Shakespeare came in representing his garbage service. The bid presented by him was discussed. Shakespeare stated that he would like to put only limbs and shrubbery in the present dump and haul the household garbage to the county "mine" landfills. If this was agreeable, he would charge $2.75 per month. io decision was made. Most councilmen felt no changes would be made before June. The city discussed the applications ap-plications for city treasurer and Vivian Mitchell was hired to fill the position vacated by Wanda Benson. j |
