Show Youth Council support Crime Prevention The Cedar City Youth Council is requesting residents to support a "Lights On Against Crime" campaign beginning Halloween Night (October 31) and continuing throughout November. Residents are encouraged to turn their porch light on at dusk and leave it on till dawn each night for the entire month to support a community-wide effort to help reduce the incidence of vandalism. The action is sponsored by the Cedar City Youth I "" '--. .- Council in cooperation with the Iron County PTA Council and the Cedar City Police Department. Council members report that the approximate cost for leaving a 100 watt light bulb burning all night (approximately 12 hours) will be about 3 cents. Costs would be slightly less for 75 watt or 60 watt bulbs. "Supporting this campaign cam-paign will cost less than $1 for the month and would help discourage our young people from becoming involved in a criminal act of vandalism. Vandalism is often a prerequisite pre-requisite for more serious crimes. The Council hopes this campaign will cause citizens to become more alert to the problem When a citizen, young or old. sees an act of vandalism occur, he has the responsibility to report it immediately. Vandalism is one of our most serious community problems at the present time and has involved both adults and youth," said Council chairwoman. Mrs. Alone Chamberlain. |
