Show Pool bids rejected, formally The Cedar City Council rejected Thursday the bids received for the city-school city-school swimming.' pool complex, as both bids from local contractors were about 30 percent over the architect's estimate. The estimate had been near $700,000 and both bids exceeded $900,000. The architect was instructed by the council members to modify the plans and put out a second call for bids following the elimination of some specifications. The Iron County School District has taken a similar action. The council also advised Sherm Dalton, co-owner of D & O Sanitation, they are to discontinue service and solicitation of service within the cor-porated cor-porated limits of Cedar City, with the exception of the state-run Southern Utah State College. The council said they were acting as the City Board of Health in making the motion. They advised Dalton of the franchise agreement between Ellis Mosdell Company and the city. The council also rescinded D & O's previously issued city business license and refunded the cost of that license. The council agreed to trade one share of field water in a distribution ditch for four shares of south and west field irrigation water, an offer made by Max Thorley. The council, however, refused to exchange land near the intersection of Airport Road and U-56. A request has been made to the city desiring the land be put up for bid or sale. At a previous council meeting, the Southern Utah Alcohol Recovery Center had requested the city donate to the center the cost of water, sewer and garbage service by simply abating that charge. Because of bookkeeping restrictions, the council moved to make an equivalent donation in cash, the donation to be part of the 1977-78 budget of July 15.. |
