Show Horace L. Carter dies in Calif; honored at Service PA ROWAN - Horace Lightner Carter died Feb. 8, 1977 in a hospital in Thousand Oaks, California of causes incident to age. Carter was a resident of Minersville, Beaver County and was visiting in California. He was born June 19, 1892 in Minersville to William Jenkins and Mary R. Lightner Carter. He married Maggie Frances LeFevre April 30, 1912 in Beaver. The marriage was later solomnized in the St. George LDS Temple. He was a lover of the great outdoors all his life and spent many days in the mountains camping and fishing with his family. An outstanding horsemen, hor-semen, he rode for a great many southern Utah cattlemen. He knew Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in his youth and could spend many an evening spinning exciting tales around a campfire. When his family grew up and moved away he went every fall and picked enough pinenuts to send some to each of them. In his earlier years he worked as a sheep shearer and traveled extensively to do this. He also worked as a rancher and a miner. He was the last of the William J. Carter children, a family that consisted of six boys and three girls. HORACE L. CARTER He is survived by his widow, daughters and sons Elmer, San Diego, Calif., Dwight L., Provo; Mrs. Howard (Vaudis) Richey.m Thousand Oaks, Calif.; George Ellis, St. Jons, Arizona; Mrs. Frank (Betty) Decker, Parowan; Mrs. Donald E. (Nellie) Long, Urbania, 111.; Don Horace, Kerns; Weldon J., St. George; Ray Morris, Lovell, Wyoming; Ned Lyle, Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Ted Carter, Minersville; Mrs. Robert (Margaret Joy) Granger, LaHabra, Calif. He is also survived sur-vived by 51 grandchildren and 60 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Minersville LDS Ward Chapel, with Bishop Earl Limb officiating. Burial was in the Minersville Cemetary. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who helped in any way with the arrnagements and services. |
