Show Aerospace Education Workshop Scheduled June 6 -10 at SUSC The ninth annual Aerospace Education Workshop will be held June 6 to 10 at Southern Utah State College. This work, shop is divided into two phasesone phas-esone for teachers who can use aerospace concepts In their teaching, and one. for youth, according to Dr. Robert Moss, director. The youth portion is designed de-signed specifically for Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts' and scout leaders. The program is coordinated by the Boy Scouts of America. Boy Scouts will have an opportunity op-portunity to receive a maximum maxi-mum of four merit badges, including Aviation, Space Exploration, Ex-ploration, Weather, and Citizenship Citi-zenship in the Nation. The Weather merit badge requires that scouts keep a weather record re-cord for 30 days prceding the workship. This should be started as soon as possible, Dr. Moss said. The $10 fee for the workhop includes an ainplane ride, construction and firing of a model rocket, field trips and lectures from many authorities authori-ties in the field of aeronautics and space. Teachers and youth involved in the workshop will hear from such notables in aviation av-iation as Colonel Bill Bower who flew with General Doolit-tie Doolit-tie on the first raid on Tokyo, an airline stewardess, NASA S'pacemcibile lecturers Benito Casados and James Boyle, FAA personnel from JcCarran Field in Las Vegas, Nev., and possibly Colonel Bernie Fisher, Fish-er, holder of the Congressional Congression-al Medal of Honor for his heroism in rescuing a fellow airman in Vietnam. Field trips will include the local airport, Blowhard Radar Site of the Air Traffic Control Center, Nellis Air Force Base, and McCarran International Airport. The adult portion of the pro-gram pro-gram provides teachers and other interested adults an opportunity op-portunity for learning uip-to-date aerospace information which has many impacts on today's living, Dr. Moss said. Concepts useful in any subject sub-ject matter area will be presented, pre-sented, with opportunities to secure much free literature and classroom materials. The workshop, Education 311W, Carries three hours of college credit. Dr. Moss , said registration for the workshop would take place in Old Main 302 from 8 to 9 a.im. on June 6, or anytime any-time until that date in the office of-fice of the . SUSC Registrar. Boy Scouts are asked to wear their uniforms for the workshop and for the awards banquet which will be held on Saturday, June 10. Speaker for the Awards Banquet will be Glenn Ostler, district scouting scout-ing executive in the southern Utah area. Merit badges will be awarded at that time. |
