Kincaid Wins Gold Medal in State Class "B" Wrestling With only one man repre-, senting Parowan High School at the State Class B. wrestling wrest-ling meet in Richfield Friday and Saturday, this one man garnered a state championship champion-ship in the 165 pound class and 12 points which put the Parowan High in a tie for 9th place in the meet which had over 20 participating schools. The PHS representative was Steve Kincaid, an outstanding wrestler at the school for the; past two years. He was the' only man to qualify for the state meet at the Region Eight meet at Delta the week before. To gain the state championship champion-ship in his weight, and the gold medal that went with it, he had to win over three op-1 ponents. In his first match Friday afternoon he won by a decision deci-sion over a boy named Free, of Wasatch High. In the semifinals semi-finals that night he won over a boy named De Lane from Piute High, also by a decision. deci-sion. Then in the finals Saturday Sat-urday night he decisioned a boy named Rees of Wayne Co. I High School. Steve is the first boy from Parowan High to win points in a state wrestling meet, and his coach, Lowell Caldwell, has nothing but praise for his work during the past season-He season-He has won points consistently consistent-ly for his school in meets with other schools in the area and has worked hard at the sport in order to give his best on all occasions. Through his efforts ef-forts Parowan finished ahead of all Region Eight schools in the meet with the exception of Delta, which finished in second sec-ond place behind Uintah after ruling as the champion for four straight years. |
