Utah has the talent, it must, for this is what the Festival was founded upon and was supposedly set up for. Perhaps it is time for the residents of Utah, the members mem-bers of the CSU Board and inquiry now into the organi- I feel that the Festival is a great event for Utahns and all other people who travel to Cedar City to view those pre-" pre-" sentations that are presented ;J ture, and contribution. It is becoming apparent that if we, as Utahns, and Cedar City residents, res-idents, don't soon become concerned con-cerned with the Festival's or- zation and direction of the Festival to see if it is living up to its purposes and goals. The Festival is to bring attention atten-tion to the talents and cultural heritage of Utah not those of California or any other area that already "has it made." Signed L.F. It is ' evident that all talent, direc-' direc-' tion, and public relations are coming out of Southern Cali-" Cali-" fornia Instead of Utah and " its resources which this Festival Fes-tival bears the name of. It has been reported that t tryouts for the Festival and recruitment for the Festival .'. was handled through the sev-', sev-', eral colleges and universities of Southern California. The -i "explanation" for this has Z been that "there is no talent t in Utah." This seems rather - hard to believe when the Utah Civic Ballet, a much more de-j de-j manding "Art" than drama, can make up its cast of better . than 60 of native Utahns, including most of the main " stars of their performance. ' As it is presently constituted, consti-tuted, the Utah Shakespearean r Festival is certainly not Utahn " now or will it be if it follows its present course of action. " This is a "hard pill" for the Administrators of the College " of Southern Utah, the Festi-' Festi-' val's "provider", and residents ' of Utah to take. Also the claim is given that "the people of Utah won't support us." Of course they |
