Show CaL-Pac, Leads Pony League Play I California Pacific Utilities forged into the lead in the Cedar City Pony League dur- ing the past week, scoring three victories, Cal-Pac defeated Utah Parks 10 to 8, squeeked by State Bank 3 to 0 then downed Utah Construction by a score of 12 to. 4. The big battle was the 3 to 0 win over State Bank in an unusual game that saw both teams go hitless. Lewis Chamberlain Cham-berlain was the winning pitcher, pitch-er, holding State Bank without with-out a hit despite the fact that Nolan Roberts tripled, only to be-called out at first on an appeal for missing the base. Lane Isom was on the mound for State Bank and lost the game despite his no-hitter. Errors Er-rors and walks acounted for all of the three runs, all in the first inning of play. The Pacific craw picked up 10 hits for 10 runs in their game over Utah Parks. Baum-gartner Baum-gartner got the win,, with help from Cardon and Chamberlain. Chamber-lain. Chamberlain also hit a pair of doubles for the winners. win-ners. Travis Bineah collected a pair of doubles for the losers and Nolan Anders belted a two-run homer, all in a losing los-ing effort for pitcher Dale Flanigan. Chamberlain again led Cal-Pac Cal-Pac to victory over Construction, Construc-tion, collecting the mound win and adding a homerun and two doubles offensively in the contest. Heaton suffered the loss for Construction. Another tough game of the week was the State Bank defeating de-feating Utah Construction, 1 to 0. The only score came in the third inning of play when Nolan Roberts tripled then scored on an error. Roberts was also the winning pitcher and had 18 strikeouts over the seven innings of play. Ronnie Adams suffered the loss. He gave up only throe hits and had 13 strikeouts in his losing los-ing effort. In other action of the week Southern Utah Mortuary, downed Utah Parks by a score of 11 to 9. Rice picked up the mound victory and Hunter homered for the victors. |
