Show Utah Postmasters Gather in Cedar City for Annual Convention; Activities Planned Through Friday Approximately 500 conventioneers conven-tioneers arrived in Cedar City Wednesday to participate in the 32nd annual convention of the Utah Chapter of the National Na-tional Association of Postmasters Post-masters of the United States. Cedar City Postmaster Frank J. Petty is serving as conven tion chairman. Petty is also a vice president in the Utah chapter. Presiding over the sessions, which conclude Friday, June 14, is president of the organization, organ-ization, Fred L. Gadd, Nephi. , Principal guest speakers for the conclave Include Kenneth L. Monson, director of Postal Systems Division of Denver, Colo., and Robert Pittam, NA-PUS NA-PUS executive committeeman. Opening session of the convention con-vention was held Wednesday forenoon at the College of Southern Utah where headquarters head-quarters has been established at the Science Building. An official of-ficial welcome to the city was given by Mayor Loren Whet-ten Whet-ten and by Lyman Smart, director of development at College Col-lege of Southern Utah. Mr. Monson served as the keynote speaker in the opening open-ing session. Seminar Scheduled During the afternoon a postal post-al seminar was conducted while the ladies in attendance participated in a tour of the home economics department at CSU and enjoyed a buffet luncheon at the CSU Student Center. This morning, Thursday, Mr. Pittam served as the keynote speaker in the morning session sess-ion and an additional seminar is planned this afternoon to be followed by a tour of the Coleman Cole-man Manufacturing Plant at 3:15 p. m. Shakespearean Festival This evening the visitors will participate in a special introduction to the Utah Shakespearean Shak-espearean Festival being presented pre-sented under the direction of Fred C. Adams and that will be followed this evening by the Chapter Banquet to be served in the Ballroom at the CSU student center. Principal speaker at the banquet will be past national president of the NAPUS, David R. Trevithick. Concluding sessions of the convention will be held Friday Fri-day at 9:15 a. rri. and following follow-ing a luncheon at the student center. |
