Show Golf Committee Ready To Push Course Through the efforts of a committee com-mittee appointed by the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce an agreement is near the signing stage with the Cedar City Corporation Cor-poration for the establishment of a golf course for Cedar City. Committee under the chairmanship chair-manship of Orcn Taylor has met with the city and final arrangements arrange-ments are nearly completed for the signing of an agreement between be-tween the city and a non-profit corporation to be known as the Southern Utah Country Club. At the last meeting of the city council final changes in the agreement were authorized in addition to tentative authorization authoriza-tion for the use of up to one second foot of water to be used on the proposed municipal course. Signing Expected The agreement, which Is expected ex-pected to be signed by the City Council at their next regular meeting, March 3, releases 117.29 acres of land to the Southern Utah Country Club in the area directly behind . the business establishments and livestock pavilion north on U. S. highway 91. This is the same locale that was previously inspected by the promoters of a golf course in 1956 when Ernie Scheiter, professional pro-fessional from Ogden Country Club, was in Cedar City and designed de-signed a nine hole course In this area. At that time the lack of water and a concrete agreement on the property resulted in dlscontinu-! a nee of the project Members of the committee presently working on the agreement agree-ment with the city include Mr. Taylor, chairman; Lester Hey-borne, Hey-borne, secretary; Browning Piatt, Kay 'Wilkes and Frank Kelsey with ' MUt " Jolley. and Ralph Thomas as advisors. Under the . agreement the course, on the leased, property of the city corporation, will be a 1-tfjMc facility with any citizen of the community eligible for membership. Money for the proposed pro-posed promotion of the course will be raised through subscription subscrip-tion to the corporation. ' Haas Meeting Planned It Is proposed that immediately immediate-ly following the signing of the agreement a public meeting will be called of all Interested citizens cit-izens and at that time officers and directors of the corporation will be elected and the solicita-1 tion or tunas ior the development develop-ment undertaken. The Southern Utah Country Club is the same name as was applied for in 1956 by the promoters pro-moters of the course. It was not known at the time of this writing writ-ing whether or not the organization organiza-tion was granted corporation papers at that time, Jolley, executive ex-ecutive secretary of the Chamber, stated. |
