Show Yearbook Activities Result in Original Production JUNIOR HIGH RELEASE By L. C Miles, Principal The school yearbook has become be-come a tradition in most schools today. In fact it Is not uncommon uncom-mon for one student to possess 10 yearbooks and more If they go beyond a four year college. This would be one each year starting the first year of Junior High. Costs and expenses for education educa-tion are mounting so fast it is the belief of many Junior High administrators ad-ministrators that considerable savings can be made if care Is taken to keep the Junior high schools from Imitating every thing the high schools and col- leges do. The yearbook is only one of many things that fall In this category. cat-egory. Others would Include costly cost-ly awards, special dress and ac. cessorles for graduation, etc., sweaters, rings, pins, costly and dangerous trips to games and activities ac-tivities out of town. The whole purpose of the Junior Jun-ior high movement is Jeopardized if this type of activity is promoted pro-moted and costs soar not only In money, but In time, effort and learning In general. At the Cedar City Junior High School the practice Is to give only one year book for the three years and that Is given to the gratuatlng class (ninth grade) each year as its members leave the school. During the ninth year students interested in photography and journalism elect classes In these fields and one of their combined I projects is to make and publish a yearbook which is presented to 'them without cost as ther graduation grad-uation gift The school furnknes material and other Incidental costs and the students take and finish all pictures, make all write-ups, and special pages that go to make a very well balanced and beautiful beauti-ful yearbook. |
