Show Experience Lacking In Cedar High Thinclad Crew Comparatively small numbers of track and field hopefuls at Cedar High School have turned out for the spring sport that will feature five participating meets this s?ason, according to Coach Hal Norton. At the present time Coach Norton's Nor-ton's thinclads are lacking in depth and In experience as well with one exception. That Is Gary Anderson, who last season was the number two sprinter ln the Class B ranks and who this year will be expected to garner the number one root in the 100 and 200 yard dashes. Early indications ire that Anderson's An-derson's time this year, his final high school year, will be better than his second place time last season. With the exception of Anderson Ander-son the squad Is comparatively green and extremely thin in all departments. Running behind Gary ln the sprints will be his younger brother, Larry, a Junior. Danny Lindsay, a sophomore, will probably participate In the sprints, particularly in relays, but will also tackle high and lew hurdle events. Also hurdling for the squad this year will be Dick Butler, a senior. In the half-mile event three men are working out to make this one of the strongest events, in numbers, at least. Leon Nelson Is a senior working on the event and he is backed up by two sophomore hopefuls, Blaine Cutler Cut-ler and Vic Condie. Frankle Evans Is currently working out on the discus and javelin, Mike Williams will undoubtedly un-doubtedly be puting the shot and Steve Yergensen will be high Jumping. At the present time no one has taken up pole vaulting ! for the squad. In the mile event Royal Blake and Ron Condie will carry the Crimson and Gold standards. First meet of the season will I be the annual Dixie Invitational at St. George on April 11. That will be followed in weekly intervals inter-vals by the Brigham Young Invitational, Invi-tational, the Utah High School Activities Association Relays at BYU stadium; the Region Meet to be staged at Milford and the State Class B finals in the University Uni-versity of Utah stadium ln Salt Lake City. |
