Show State Elks Association Announces Annual Youth Leadership Contest Throughout Utah President Paul Steinke. Moab, Utah State Elks Association, today to-day announced the opening of the Elks Youth Leadership contest. con-test. President Steinke said that the leadership contest was designed to spur youth to follow the example ex-ample of America's astronauts. These men did not develop their character and leadership abilities after their selection. Their historic his-toric achievements climaxed their training In school, church and community affairs and emphasize empha-size the importance of starting early in life to learn to lead. The contest, now in its 14th year. Is open to boys and girls under 13 who compete in separate separ-ate divisions on local, state and national levels. Entries are judged judg-ed on their leadership abilities and achievements In school, church and community service activities, Americanism, and citizenship ci-tizenship appreciation. First, second a:d third place winners of the national contest will receive U. S. Saving bonds of $1,000. $500. and $300. Winners Win-ners in the local and state contest con-test will also receive Savings Bonds. President Steinke announces an-nounces the appointment of a committee headed by Landon Frel of St. George Lodge 1713 to conduct the contest. Local chairman for the eoncest is J. Vurge Smith.
