Show Education Week Activities Receive Attention Attention is being focused this week on the schools as a part of National Education Week, now in progress. Parents of school children have been invited to visit vi-sit the schools, the classrooms, and participate in a number of activities. An example of what our teachers teach-ers are providing for children In our Iron County Schools is graphically gra-phically illustrated in a biology class being taught by Ed Leigh for sophomore students in the Cedar Ce-dar High School. This week students of this class will have an opportunity to study from a display of various var-ious plants that have been gathered ga-thered over the week end from the higher elevations of Cedar Mountain to the desert like conditions con-ditions which exist near St. George, just 50 miles to the south. From Cedar Mountain Mr. Leigh has brought to the class room a cross section of the stately state-ly White nr. the familiar Quaking Quak-ing Aspen, Oak, Red Cedar and Mahogany. To the south the exhibit includes in-cludes desert plant species such as the Desert Holly, Yucci, two varieties of cacti, bamboo plants, bermudi grass, and what is known as the Desert Carrot. Utilizing the many varieties of plant life which are in the extreme change of conditions in the two areas, brings the study more vividly alive for the students. stu-dents. Similar examples of use of materials ma-terials found locally and gathered gath-ered 'or U3 in uic Class room can be seen through the schools. The use of these materials which are familiar to the students, brings new meaning and added interest. |
