Graders Finish Project I "Getting Heady For Winter" Is Mrs. Larson's second grade at i the West Elementary school. In showing how eop!e get ready, for winter an experiment In home canning was conducted ini the school lunch kitchen. Tomatoes were cut up Into parts (fractions) and were run through the Juicer. The Juice was then cooked and bottled j and stored away. The use of varying kinds of measures was talked about and the Juice was bottled in pint and quart bottles. Sudents found that there were two cups In a pint and two pints in a quart. This also led to a study about how food is preserved and why. The use of he.TT In cooking and the use of storage facilities were also discussed. The recipe for the canning experiment ex-periment was written on a chart and was used by the children as a set of of instructions in making mak-ing the Juice. This was a meaningful mean-ingful reading and writing ex-erience ex-erience which was necessary in completing the experiment. The Juice has been stored and Krade at the West Elementary School. They are sealing and storing tomato juice. will be used this winter by the second grade for mid-morning Each bottle was labeled giving giv-ing additional writing and reading read-ing experience. |
