Show "LET'S TALK DRY CLEANING" By Ray Anker We are often asked, "What causes a garment to change in size or shape?" In other words, what maUes it shrink or stretch? Many fabrics, by vinae of their fiber content, weave and the finishing treatment given thern, have a certain amount t of potential shrinkage. Wool fibers, for example, are extremely ex-tremely sensitive to h'.h temperatures. tem-peratures. The weave of a fa- j brie is responsible for the greatest shrinkage factor. Most woolens today are pre-shrunk. But even so, your cleaner must take great care to determine and maintain as far as possible possi-ble a garment's original size and shape. Crepe weaves have a marked tendency to shrink or stretch. The crepe effect is formed by tightly twisted threads running run-ning In one direction. How much a crepe fabric will shrink or stretch depends on whether the fibers have been overstretched during the finishing fin-ishing process. If overstretched overstretch-ed the fabric is almost certain to shrink. If too little stretching stretch-ing has taken play to give a heavy creped effect, the fabric will most likely stretch from ordinary wear and cleaning.
