Show Annual Boat Races Are Sponsored By County Jeep Patrol The annual Boat Races staged on Navajo Lake will be held Sunday, July 21 beginning at 12 noon, the sponsoring Iron County Coun-ty Sheriff's Jeep Patrol announced an-nounced this week. Nine classes of races will be held at the annual regetta, all sanctioned by the American Power Pow-er Boat Association and handled by an affiliate organization, the Salt Lake City Power Boat Assn. The colorful event at cool Navajo Na-vajo is expected to draw wide interest from throughout southern south-ern Utah. The nine classes that will be Included in the races will include: in-clude: B, C and D Stock Hydro; F Outboard Hydro, Du Run About, 145 aim 130 Ily uiu, Cracker Crack-er Box and E Racing Runabout. Each of the races offers spectacular spec-tacular thrills. A highlight of the day's activity will be the appearance of Wes Knudson, a world record holder from Salt Lake City who will participate In the regetta activities. In connection with the Boat Races the Sheriff's Jeep Patrol are also staging a fund drive. They will award a 14 foot fibre glass, runabout with a 35 horse power motor with forward controls, con-trols, gas tank and a trailer to some lucky person Just prior to the last race. The unit, as it will bo presented present-ed Sunday, will be on display on Cedar City's Main Street until Saturday evening and at Navajo Lake Sunday, Admission to the races has been set at $1 for adults and 50 cents for children over 12 years of age. Dave E. Blackner is the general chairman for the Jeep Patrol in charge of the annual event. Ken Blackner will be in charge of consessions which will be available avail-able at the Lake during the day and ticket sales are under the direction di-rection of Ray Knell. The committee points out that funds derived from the sponsoring sponsor-ing of the Boat Races will be used to purchase equipment used in the organization of search and rescue operations. The funds will not be used for the purchase of equipment used by the individual indi-vidual members. |
