Show Vfl Publication Gives School-Minded Korean Veterans Hints on Finances, Certification I In a recent release from the I Veterans Administration information infor-mation service a few "What to i Expect" hints were outlined for , Korean veterans who will be entering, en-tering, school this fall under the ,G I Bill. First of all a clarification of the rates to veterans was listed as follows: $110 with no depend-eats, depend-eats, $135 with one dependent, and $1G0 with more than one dependent. VA urged veterans to take along enough money to tide thorn over the first two months of school. It will be approximately approximate-ly two months before the veteran receives his first check from the VA. Under the law, VA can take no action on payment until it has received certification from the veteran and his school that the veteran has satisfactorily completed this first month. Can Still Enter School One of the most important notifications no-tifications was the fact that post-Korean post-Korean veterans who have unused un-used training certificates may still use the G I Bill to go to school this fall, even though the certificates show the veteran's cut-off dates have passed. Veterans affected are those who have been separated from service three years or less by the time the fall school terms begin. be-gin. These veterans should present pre-sent their old certificates and a photostatic or certified copy of their separation papers to the approved school of their choice. This extension of time to begin be-gin Korean GI training is provided pro-vided by a new law, enacted Aug. 20, 1954, which gives post-Korean post-Korean veterans three years from the date of discharge to begin training. Previously, veterans separated before Aug. 20, 1952, had to begin be-gin by Aug. 20, 1954. Others had two years from seperatlon in which to begin. The certificates contain the veteran's cut-off date, and ordinarily would not be good for a veteran who wants to start after that date. Even though many certificates, issued before the law was changed, show that the veteran's cut-off date has now passed, they are good as long as the veterans start training train-ing within three years after the date they left the armed forces. |
