Show Sarah Meeks Morris Succumbs To Lingering Illness Funeral services were held at the Enterprise Ward Chapel last Saturday evening in final tribute tri-bute to Mrs. Sarah Meeks Morris, 89. Mrs. Morris died of cancer at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Holt, in St. George last Thursday. Known as "Grandma" to her many friends in southern Utah Mrs. Morris is one of the last two original pioneers of Enterprise. She and her husband, Ben Morris, Mor-ris, built the first home in Enterprise Enter-prise and it is also a historical fact that she was the first white child born in Long Valley. She was born December 9, 1864, in Glendale, to Dr. Priddy and Mary Jane McClene Meeks. Her early life was spent in Kane County where she lived 12 years under the United Order in Hanisbury and Orderville. Her first marriage was to Edward Lamb and they had one son. They later were separated. In 1882 she was married to Ben Morris with the marriage solemnized solemn-ized in the Manti LDS temple. Mrs. Moris has spent the last several months in St. George under un-der the care of her daughter, Mrs. Holt. She is survived by a son, Hy-rum Hy-rum Lamb, St. George; five daughters, Mrs. Holt, Mrs. Deser-et Deser-et Simkins, and Mrs. Rose Frederick, Fred-erick, St. George; Mrs. Virgie Nordby. Arlington, Wash.; and Mrs. Elizabeth (Libbie) Clarey, Earp, California, and a number of grandchildren and great-: great-: grandchildren. Burial was in the Enterprise cemetery. |
