Show Run-Off Kledion Important To Ix)cal Voters There will bp only one contest on In the Run-Off Primary election elec-tion in Iron County on August 15th. and as a result very little interest in the run-off has been shown by local people. However, the Kepub-jk-an nominee for an Important olfve, that of rtHI'Tcsentatlvc to Congress from the Kirst Congressional Congress-ional District, Is to be decided at tills election, and all party members mem-bers should cast their ballots. 13. H. Strlngham, Mayor of Vernal, Ver-nal, will opposj William Peterson uf Logan former head of Exten-ion Exten-ion Service at the Utah State Agricultural Ag-ricultural College, in the run-off to determine th(. Republican nominee nom-inee tor office. Strlngham ran well theud of Peterson In the Primary election, but did not receive sufficient suf-ficient votes to gain a majority )ver his three opponents. The attention of southern Utah otcrs, partlcula'.ly those of Cedar Jlty and Iron County, should be jailed to the fact that during Mr. Peterson's long service with the State College at Logan, he repeatedly repeat-edly marked himself as an enemy of the lira lull Agricultural College. Col-lege. His attitude throughout his service Indicated that he felt that ihe state was not Justified in maintaining main-taining the blanch college here, and he frequently stated, publicly .ind privately, that the service rendered ren-dered by the branch College should have been combined with that of the State College and handled through the Institution at Ixgan. People of this area should realize the danger of placing Mr. Peterson In such nn linMrlant position, where he could welld much ln-riuence ln-riuence In the future development of the southern Utah school or In retarding Its development. If elected elec-ted he may not use his office tn retard the growth of the school. :ut we certainly could not expect any support from him. Consequently Consequent-ly It would be w'se for Ihe Rpub-llcans Rpub-llcans of this area to support a man who Is at least friendly toward this section of the .state. |
