Show Statement to Voters By Judge Will LHoyt : . - . .a. ;vs.?;.t. $ m' - - . . - U i v;; I " J '-i,v - y -!. ( m, V ltf-ir.i . J Election day is near at hand. T,iroiie,h the gift of Providence and the courage and sacrifices of men and women who fove freedom, the poodle of this land still have the right to chore their law-makers and officers. In the noise and controversy con-troversy of election time, we should not become divided or unbalanced in our thinking as to neglect to be grateful for the rights and privileges privi-leges which Election Day stands for Since citizens have the right to choose their officers, they have the right to know the character and iews of those who offer themselves for publ.c set vice. As a canldate for re-election to the office of District Judge, I siuiuit this statement of my beliefs as to the duties and obligations ob-ligations of one who is permitted by the people to hold that office. Justice, in a democracy, Is the fundamental basis and object of law. A Judge should keep that prin-c.ple prin-c.ple constantly In mind. He should be qualified by experience and study of the law so that he will not be confused or misled by the theories or arguments which do not square with Justice, common sense and truth. Judges should act without fear of criticism and without consideration of self-inteiest. They should take no thought of personal advantage jr dli.ad . autage. They should never allow themselves to be Influenced in their decisions by partisam political pol-itical influences. All men have equal rights to justice under the law. whether poor or rich, weak or powerful, common ltl.en or government official. Com!:! should function with '.irom; tue: s, for delayed decisions often result in failure of Justice udges should be diligent and should ;Ive prompt tludy and careful at cntlin to all cases submitted for their decision. Courts should function openly; judges should not allow private communications to be made nor secret influence to be exerted in-connectlon in-connectlon with pending litigation. Cost of government Is a heavy burden and court expense should therefore be reduced to the minimum mini-mum consistent with efficient ad nlnl.st.ition of justice. I believe that patriotism as well as religion and morality cry out a-gainst a-gainst extreme partisanship--that hatred of a fellow citizen or canldate canl-date has no place In a democracy that we should not allow partisan enthusiasm to override sound Judgment Judg-ment or faith In humanitythat when an election has been held we should te quick to put aside partisan part-isan strife and cooerate with elected elect-ed officials in carrying on the functions func-tions of government. I again desire to express 'appreciation 'appre-ciation to voters who have supported support-ed me for public office in the past Invite their continued support if they find my record such as to Justify Just-ify support. If rc-elcted I shall strive to discharge the duties of dlstikt Judge with the utmost of wisdom, fairness and understanding understand-ing of the hi of which I am capable. cap-able. If Mr. Jensen, the canldate of the Republican Party Is elected I am sure lie will strive to do likewise, like-wise, and I 'shall urge the members of the bar and the people to respect res-pect and loyally sustain him.
