Show BPRrmnary houso BJPsTioarry the power for oven one heater. Up to tho present time no practical electric heating do-vice do-vice has been invented. Electric power must become cheaper or a moro efficient heater be devised beforo they will be used practically. I used a five H. P. electric heater for a year whilo working at a power plant. It was insufficient for a twelve by twelvo room, and even there where power was being wasted it was abandoned aban-doned and stoves substituted. A small heater can be made for about ono dollar dol-lar that can bo used for toasting bread, frying small articles, etc., but even these will be expensive if used moro than intermittently. A great saving will be noted if when one has ironing to do it can all be done at onco instead of heating and reheating reheat-ing the iron. If for instance a number of people aro living at one place, havo an ironing nnd pressing day, at which timo all may do their pressing, and do not have overy one using tho iron .at different times so that it will have to bo reheated over and over again. If this is followed .tho chances nro that the iron will bo attached less than half tho time it otherwise would. Tho washing motor If loaded will ordinarily uso about or possibly a little lit-tle less than half as much as tho iron. Tho motor however does not uso a constant amount but uses power according ac-cording to tho load it has to pull. If running nlono it uses practically no power, then moro nnd more as tho clothing is piled into the washer. Power to bo used by the motor should bo just about tho voltage for which the motor is designed, and motors aro apt to bo damaged if the voltago is much above or much below the standard. Do not uso tho motor if tho lights are very dim. It is apt to be burned out. Tho average price of power for lighting every where is about as wo havo here varying in different' places from six to eleven and twelvo cents per kilowatt hour. Logan and Provo have rather low rates. Salt Lake City has a rate of eleven cents but tho average is approximately seven to oleven cents. For power purposes the prices vary entirely according to tho typo of load that is desired by the various users, but is seldom above three and a half to five cents for largo motors. |
